Walkerton 2 challenged Minto to a tie!
The last game against Walkerton 2 team ended in a win for Minto- 5-2 so Walkerton was determined to bring there game to Palmerston on Monday night. What a battle it was ending in a 1-1 game.
Walkerton really pressured Minto this game and our ability to play defensively. With many opportunities for Walkerton to score on breakaways the defence shut them down. Bailey Sinclair made some key saves to keep the team in the game. It wasn't until the third period that any scoring occurred. Great efforts with alot of skating and back checking for Minto. The third period was very exciting to watch with many good attempts to score for both teams. Finally a Walkerton player was able to get a shot on net even after being back checked by Minto's defence and falling to the ice. Nice try and efforts again by Minto. Then with 4 minutes left in the third period Ryan Helmka was able to grab a pass from Parker Miller and break for the net to tie the game. Fans were on the edge of their seat for the last 4 minutes of the game. Minto put lots of pressure on the Walkerton end and Leah Herrfort passed it up to Ryan Hemka creating a breakaway chance to try to win the game. With the scoreboard counting down as he approached the awaiting Walkerton goalie, fans were chanting "Shoot, Shoot" and that he did. Ryan shot it in the top corner of the net. Unfortunately for Minto, the time had run out by 1 second. So the game remains a tie! The Novice LL team continues to provide exciting hockey for parents and grandparents to watch.
