Minto Pee Wee Reps are Finalists at International Silver Stick!!
Through winning their Regional Silver Stick Tournament in Kincardine, the Minto Pee Wee Rep Team advanced to the International Silver Stick Tournament in Forest Ontario on January 11th through January 13th.

Drawing the early game of 8am Friday morning, the Team arrived at the Forest arena at 7am pumped to get out on the ice. The first game of the tournament matched the Minto Mad Dogs against the Red Bank (NJ) Generals. The boys took to the ice and played a fast paced, passing game. Their determination and team effort gave them a 7-0 win over the Generals.
What a great start to their International Silver Stick debut!

At 1:05pm, Friday January 11th the Mad Dogs took to the ice in Thedford for their second game of the tournament. Their opponent in this game was the Sylvania (Ohio) Maple Leafs.
Once again, the boys came out on the ice flying. Not once during this game did these boys give up or let up. By the end of the game the Mad Dogs managed to put an 11-1 win up on the scoreboard.
The Boys, Coaches and Parents all left the arena feeling very proud of the hockey the Mad Dogs had played during their first day of the International Silver Stick.

Being lucky enough to draw the 8am game for the second day in a row the Minto Family arrived at the Thedford arena at 7am for day two. The PeeWee’s first game of the day had them playing against the Delhi Rockets. The Mad Dogs took to the ice and knew that they were up against a strong team. The Delhi Rockets were going to give them a run for their money. From the beginning whistle this game was a quick paced game between two teams who were quite evenly matched. In the third period the Mad Dogs dug deep and scored a couple of unanswered goals to give them a 5-2 win over Delhi. This was a great game of hockey enjoyed by the players and fans alike. Winning this game advanced the Mad Dogs to the semi-finals later that day.

The Minto squad arrived at the Thedford arena for the semi finals at 5:15pm only to find out things were running about an hour behind. The boys took this all in stride and considered it an opportunity to watch some high calibre hockey. This semi-final game would have the boys meet up with the same Red Bank (NJ) Generals they had faced in their first game of the tournament. Minto knew that the Generals would be back trying to turn the tables on them. The Mad Dogs went on the ice with one goal in mind. Their sights were set on winning this game to advance to the finals. It never ceases to amaze us how the boys can dig deeper each game and go that little bit harder. The boys played a strong, fast, tactical game to give them a 4-1 victory over the Red Bank (NJ) Generals. International Silver Stick Finals here we come!!!

The International Silver Stick “Pee Wee C” final game took place at the Forest Arena on Sunday January 13th at 11am. These boys were ready - ready to go out on the ice and vie for the Championship. Their opponents for this game would be the Centre Hasting Grizzlies. Rumor had it this team was tough.
Minto took to the ice and played their game. The Mad Dogs managed to light up the scoreboard first. It remained a 1-0 game until the Grizzlies scored a power play goal midway through the third period to tie it up. Despite great efforts by both teams another goal wasn’t scored in regulation time. This would send the game into sudden victory overtime! At this point Minto’s Midget Boys came over to the glass behind the Mad Dog’s bench and banged on it encouraging our boys to bring home the win. With less than two minutes remaining in the first overtime period, during a scramble in front of the Minto net, the Grizzlies managed to flip one in to give them a 2-1 overtime victory.  The Grizzles won an unthinkable four overtime games in the tournament.

As disappointed as the boys were at not winning the International Silver Stick Championship, they need to remember what a great accomplishment it was to get to this tournament in the first place. They should be very proud of themselves! Boys you played with true passion for the game, not leaving anything on the bench .... giving each game your all. Your parents and coaches are very proud of how you handle yourselves on and off the ice. You are truly a classy group of guys who make us proud each and every time you wear your Minto jerseys!!

Congratulations to Brett Zabel, Logan Wanless and Brodie Hoffele for being named to the Peewee All Star team after a great weekend of hockey.

Be proud of your accomplishment of being International Silver Stick Finalists!!
Congratulations to each of you on your fantastic weekend of hockey!

The PeeWee Rep Team and their parents would like to thank the Minto Midgets for their encouragement throughout the entire tournament .... you guys rock!!
