The Peewee Reps competed in the Kincardine Regional Silver Stick Tournaments on December 28 - 30th.
On Friday December 28th the Pee Wee Rep Team headed to Tiverton to play their first Silver Stick game against the West Grey Huskies. From the first whistle to the final seconds of the game, the Team dug deep and played hard. The final score showed that with a 8-0 win over the Huskies.
Later that day, the Mad Dog's second game had them facing off against the Norwich Knighthawks. The boys played through a rough, physical game to come out on top with a 4-0 score.
Way to go Guys – day one was a huge success!!
On Saturday December 29th the Mad Dogs headed back to Tiverton for day two. Blyth Brussels would be Minto's first opponent of the day. Minto started off the scoring with 3 fairly quick goals. Part way through the 2nd period Blyth Brussels poured it on and scored 2 goals of their own, bringing the score within one goal. Minto fired it up and went on to score 4 more unanswered goals making the final score 6-2.
The second game of the day saw the Mad Dogs meet the Bruce Peninsula Predators. Despite somewhat of a walk away score of 12-0 in our favour, the boys had nothing but good things to say about this team. The boys thought the Bruce Peninsula team was made up of a great group of guys and wish them success in the rest of their season.
With a record of 4 wins, the Mad Dogs would head to the finals on Sunday December 30th !
On Sunday December 30th the Team headed to Kincardine to meet the Norwich Knighthawks in the Silver Stick Final. The Mad Dogs arrived at the rink keen to get back on the ice. Norwich was back hoping to even the score by beating Minto in this, their second meeting of the tournament.
The Minto boys kicked things into high gear from the first seconds of the game right until the final buzzer. Norwich managed to light up the scoreboard first. This seemed to spur the Dogs on even more. Even with numerous penalties on both sides, the team remained focused on the job at hand. Throughout the game the Mad Dogs stuck to their game plan and played a great, strategic game.
At the final buzzer Minto had won the game and tournament with a 5-1 score! Champs!!!
The Minto Pee Wee Reps were presented with their Championship banner, trophy & individual medals!
Congratulations to all of the Players and Coaches on a great Tournament – you had a fantastic weekend of hockey!!!
This team is made up of a great group of boys who love the game of hockey! They play each game with passion and class! Way to go Mad Dogs - Silver Stick “Pee Wee C” Regional Champs!!
The Pee Wee Rep Team travels to Forest, Ontario on January 11th to compete in the International Silver Stick Tournament! Make sure to wish the boys good luck or even better come to Forest to cheer them on.
