Pee Wee Reps Win Minto Minor Hockey Tournament!!
By: Darlene Loos
On Saturday December 17th the Pee Wee Rep team started off their tournament with an early morning game against the Drayton Defenders.

Mad Dogs started the scoring off in the 1st period with Brodie Hoffele lifted one past the goalie.

In the 2nd period Drayton snuck one in to tie things up and then put another one in to take the lead.  Not to be out done Minto’s Brett Zabel tied it up late in the 2nd period by putting one between the pipes on a pass from Cody Camm.

In the 3rd period the Mad Dogs kept the pressure on by scoring 3 more unanswered goals for a final score of 5 - 2.  Scoring Minto’s final goals were:  Brodie Hoffele - unassisted, Tyler Canning assisted by Camm & Tyler Quigley and Zabel assisted by Camm.  Monica Rankin played a great game in net for the Mad Dogs.

Minto Pee Wees were matched up against the Mount Forest Rams for their second game.

Ben Riley started the scoring off in the 1st period with an unassisted goal from the point.

Despite a fairly fast paced game filled with penalties, Mad Dogs came out on top with a 6 – 0 score.

The remaining 5 Minto goals were scored by Brett Zabel with assists from Lucas Oxford (2), Logan Wanless & Oxford (1) and unassisted on two of them.

Shut-out going to Trevor Scott who made some great saves to shut Mount Forest down.

Winning this game gave them the nod to play in the final game.

In the final game of the tournament Minto Mad Dogs met North Middlesex Jr. Stars.  Both teams came out aiming for top spot in the tournament.  Because these two teams were fairly well match, fans enjoyed an action packed, nail biter game.  North Middlesex lit the score board up with the first two goals.  Down 2 – 0, the Mad Dogs dug deep to score 2 of their own in the third period.  Goal scorers during regulation time were Brett Zabel from Lucas Oxford & Reid Lobsinger and Cody Camm assisted by Logan Wanless & Josh Langridge.  Still tied at the end of regulation time these two teams headed into overtime. After one period of overtime the score remained tied up, which meant one thing – they were heading to a shoot out!!

Unbelievably, it took 11 shooters from each team before Minto’s Ben Riley deked the North Middlesex goalie and slid one home.  Monica Rankin played an amazing game in net and made some awesome saves in overtime!

Thanks to the PeeWee Reps and the entire Coaching Staff for a day of exciting hockey.  All fans definitely got their money’s worth!!

Way to go Mad Dogs – you’re #1!!!!!
