The Minto Atom LL #1 team finished off their regular season play with a 8-0 triumph over Hanover on Saturday February 5 in Harriston.
Hanover came out strong in the first period with an aggressive forecheck that yielded them some good scoring chances. Minto was able to hold Hanover off the scoreboard and by the mid mark of the first period, seemed to be putting their characteristic passing and aggressive forechecking game together. Minto scored their first goal with 1:26 remaining in the first period when Kaleb Irvin and Ryan Litt worked a give and go and setup Noah Aitken in front of the Hanover Goaltender. Hanover’s aggressive play resulted in a number of penalties in the second and third period and Minto capitalized on these opportunities. Minto scored 4 goals in the second and 3 goals in the third. Minto themselves ran into penalty trouble in the third period taking 4 minor penalties in the last 10 minutes of play. Good puck clearing by the defense and some solid stops by Owen " Emery " Day kept Hanover from staging a comeback. Hat’s off to the Hanover Goal Tender who faced more than 50 shots in the game from the Maddogs offense. Bailey Sinclair and Owen Day earned themselves another shut-out - Great Work Guys !!
Minto’s Win topped off a Terrific Regular Season that saw them go undefeated ( 31 – 0 – 2 ) in League play, participation in 3 Atom Tournaments plus 3 Exhibition games. The Maddogs find themselves in first place in the WOAA Atom South Central Grouping.
