The Minto Atom LL #1 team won the “A” championship at the Minto Mnor Hockey Tournament on Sunday, January 23rd.
The Minto Atom LL #1 team won the “A” championship at the Minto Mnor Hockey Tournament on Sunday, January 23rd.
Game #1 had Minto facing off against Normanby. Ryan Litt opened the scoring in the 1st period with Normanby notching the equalizer shortly thereafter to tie the score at 1-1 going into the 2nd period. Minto added 3 goals in the 2nd period by Bryce Williams and Noah Aitken (2). Minto maintained a 4-2 lead going into the 3rd period. The game was close until midway through the 3rd period, when Minto added 4 additional goals to bring the final score to 8-4. Goals in the 3rd period went to Ryan Litt, Noah Aitken, Chelsey Grice and Kaleb Irvin. Assists went to Kaleb Irvin (4), Ryan Litt (2), Braydon Brooking (2), Ryan Helmka, Kadin Johnson, Noah Aitken and Brandon Woodroffe.
Game #2 was played against Wallace. The home team would open the scoring in the 1st period with goals by Ethan Lemke, Ryan Litt and Kaleb Irvin, taking a 3-0 lead into the 2nd period. Ryan Helmka would notch another goal in the 2nd period and Kaleb Irvin would end the scoring in the 3rd period with 1 final goal to make the score 5-2. Assists went to Kaleb Irvin, Ryan Helmka, Noah Aitken, Braydon Brooking and Kadin Johnson.
The Championship game saw the Mad Dogs face off against a strong Seaforth Stars team, who like the Mad Dogs were undefeated in their regular season. The Mad Dogs were first on the board with 3 goals by Kaleb Irvin, Seaforth then scored in the final seconds of the opening frame to make the score 3-1. Minto was the only team to score in the 2nd period with goals from Ryan Litt and Kaleb Irvin. The Mad Dogs continued to play and aggressive forechecking game against the Stars. The 3rd period saw Seaforth score 3 goals, however, the Mad Dogs answered with an additional 4 goals of their own. The third period goals went to Ryan Litt, Ryan Helmka and Kaleb Irvin (2). Assists went to Noah Aitken, Josh Gray, Ryan Litt, Ian Jamieson, Bryce Williams, Ethan Lemke and Chelsey Grice.
The Mad Dogs played hard “as a team” the entire tournament and also had a strong showing in net by both tenders Owen Day and Bailey Sinclair.
