The Maddogs squared off against the Drayton Defenders on Saturday in Drayton as part of their Minor Hockey Day.  The Drayton Defenders were pumped being in their arena and came out strong. The play was back and forth for the entire first period with both team’s goalie’s making solid stops.  Minto got two goals late in the first frame, the first by Kaleb Irvin and another by Ian Jamieson to end the first with a 2-0 lead.  Between the first and second period,  Coach Litt reinforced the game plan with the team around him at the bench and came out flying in the second.  The Maddogs notched 3 goals in the second and 4 in the third period to beat the Defenders 9 – 1.   The team was treated to Juice Boxes and Timbits by Drayton Minor Hockey -  they were a hit and sure didn’t last long -  Thanks Drayton Minor Hockey

Sunday afternoon the Atom Maddogs were in Kurtzville to take on the Wallace Sabres for the first meeting of the teams this year. The Sabre’s were short 2 players for two full lines but this didn’t slow them down.  The Sabres came out flying and used their size and skating to drive hard to the Minto net.  The play was back and forth with good scoring chances and great saves made by both goalies. Minto was able to score in the first when Brice Williams notched his 1 goal of the year.  This triggered the Sabre’s to push the play even harder and were able to score one themselves 19 seconds later to even up the scoring at one each.  When the buzzer sounded to end the first period, Minto and Wallace were tied 1-1.  The fast tempo of the game and Minto’s strong passing  started to have  an impact on Wallace and resulted in Minto earning 6 goals in the second period.  By the third period, both teams were showing fatigue. Still a number of good scoring opportunities by both teams with goal tending by both teams being strong. Both Minto and Wallace scored a single in the third period with Minto taking the game by a score of 8 – 2.

Bailey and Owen shared goal tending duties in each game – Great saves Guys ! .  Special mention to the Minto defencemen who played great during both games,  keeping the puck in at the bluelines allowing the forwards more chances to score and clearing the puck from in front of Bailey and Owen – great job Brayden,  Chelsey,  Brandon and Josh.  Best rush over the two games goes to Josh Gray for his goal in the second period against Wallace. Josh stick handled from his own blueline around each Wallace player and then deaked out the Wallace Goaltender to notch his first of the season.

Lets keep the momentum going Maddogs !!!
