Minto Atom Reps win the "A" championship
The Atoms Went to Hillsburgh on Saturday Novemeber 12 and took the A side championship in their first tournament of the year.

This one day tournament was filled with good goals, passing and team work that earned Minto the gold.  Also a skills competition and player of the game honors.

Game 1 was at 9.am against the Hespler Shamrocks.  This game was a battle for the Shamrocks as they did all they could to keep Minto from storming their net.  For the most part of the game the Mad Dogs kept Hespler in their end and outworked them for 4 goals a period and final score of 12-0.  Congratulations to Leah Herrfort who earned player of the game honors for her solid defence and heads up play.

Game 2 was at 1.pm against the Flesherton Hawks.  Minto and Flesherton played each other last winter in the championship game of the Silver Stick tournament in Wingham.  Minto lost that game by one goal but this game was to be different.  Minto would score 3 times in the first and keep the Hawks scoreless.  Ryan Litt would find the net early on an assist by Parker Miller and Parker Miller would find the net twice on assists from Ryan Litt and Ryan Helmka.  Minto outplayed the Hawks and their frustrations showed in the second period.
Period 2, the Mad Dogs found themselves on the recieving end of some questionable play by the Hawks, Minto stood their ground, but the refs saw it differently and punished Minto by making them play shorthanded for 6 of the ten minute period.  Minto's penalty kill was tested and they did a fine job of clearing the puck out of their end.  Only one goal was allowed during that time and was one of only 6 shots the Hawks would register in the 30 minute game.  Minto showed their skills as they would score shorthanded as Logan Miller would find the net on assist from Tyson Koopman to make it 4-1 to end the period.
3rd period was much of the same as Minto would make steady trips to the box,  the Mad Dogs worked hard again to clear the zone but continued to get shots on their opponents net.  On our end Drew Richardson would continue to shut down all offence in the 3rd.  No scoring to report in the last frame as Minto would celebrate their victory of 4-1.  The team really pulled together to play shorthanded and proved that they can do it against a tough Flesherton team.  The Hawks goalie worked hard to stop all 16 shots from the Mad Dogs but in the end Drew Richardson would get the player of the game honors.  Congratulations Drew!

Game 3 was the final game of the day.  It was 5 pm but the kids still had lots of energy.  Minto would face Mt Forest for the final game.  Mt Forest was outmatched by a determined Minto squad.  Minto only allowed one goal this game and had 9 for themselves.  The final score was 9-1 for Minto.  Conratulations to Ryan Helmka for player of the game honors.

Congratulations to Boston Will, Drew Bell, Tyson Koopman, Ryan Helmka and Drew Richardson for competing in the skills competition.
I also wanted to mention Will Dennison who played three good games with the flu.  Just another example of the heart on this team.

Way to go Mad Dogs!!!!!
