Atom Rep's love overtime in Meaford
The Atom Rep Mad Dogs continued their road trip when they travelled to
Meaford on Saturday and Sunday for Meaford Midget and Atom tournament. The Dogs played 3 games taking all of them to overtime, in their first game Saturday they played Beaver Valley from Thornbury and fell behind by a goal early in the first period just over a minute later Derek Williams lit the lamp from Blair Butchart and Greg Becker to tie the game at 1. The game stayed tied till the end of regulation where Butchart scored with 52 seconds left in overtime from Williams and Eric Small.
The second game of the day saw Minto take on Pelham and again the game was tie at the end of regulation, The dogs were all over the Pelham team in the first period taking a 1 -0 lead on a unasisted goal from Eric Small. The tables were turned in the second period as Pelham returned the favour and hemmed the Dogs in their end and tied the game up at one. the 3rd period was exiting but Minto could not light the lamp and had to settle for another overtime. With less than a minute left in the first overtime Small ended the game on another unasisted tally, Quinton Donkersgoed played an awesome game between the pipes.
On Sunday the Dogs made the snowy trip back to Meaford for a tilt against Langton, Minto came out and played a great game setting the pace and striking first in the first period on another goal by Eric Small from Austin Camm. The dogs held Langton off until the 3rd period when they scored a power play goal to knot the game at one. Again the game would end in a tie sending the Dogs to a 3rd overtime game in this tournament. The first overtime resolved nothing so a second one was played and with only 44 second left Langton played broke in and scored to take the championship.
Great weekend of hockey by the Atom Rep's as they will probably not play 3 consecutive overtime games for a while, Tyler Reiner was name the MVP from the Minto crew. Excellent job gang.
