Rowan's Law
As
of July 1, 2019, Rowan’s Law requires all sports organizations to:
1. Ensure all athletes under the age of 26, parents of athletes under the age
of 18, coaches, team trainers and team officials confirm EVERY year that they
have reviewed Ontario’s Concussion Awareness Resources.
2. Establish a Concussion Code of Conduct that sets out rules of
behaviour to support concussion prevention.
3. Establish a Removal-from-Sport and Return-to-Sport protocol.
Ontario’s Concussion Awareness Resources are age specific so each
acknowledgement form is based on the current age of the player.
Ontario’s Concussion Awareness Resources are age specific so each acknowledgement form is based on the current age of the player. The age groups are: 10 and Under, 11-14, and 15 and Older. The resources developed by the government of Ontario allow parents/guardians to use the age appropriate information to have a conversation with their players about concussion prevention, diagnosis, treatment, as well as, return-to-school and return-to-play protocols.
The acknowledgement forms MUST be returned to your coach prior to being allowed on the ice once assigned to a team. There will be no exceptions. You may print off the form(s) yourself or request one from MMH. Players currently going through power skating and tryouts will be required to complete the form and return it to their coach once they are assigned to a team. They do not need to have this completed for the remainder of the power skating or tryouts.
