The Minto Maddogs Peewee Rep won the Kincardine Regional Silverstick Tournanment on Dec 30th with a 4-1 victory over the South Bruce Blades

The peewee rep started their journey to the finals  by playing the West Grey Warriors on Thursday morning. The game was 3-2 us with nine minutes left until we exploded for five unanswered goals to win the game 8-3 with West Grey scoring late. The next game was against Wingham Ironmen Thursday afternoon we scored late in the first period, three in the second and three in the third for a 7-0 win and a Shutout for Taran L. This Game was notable in that 6 different players scored, Reed, Brody with 2, Quinn, Clay with his First , Evan and Adam.

Game 3 on Saturday morning saw us play our nemesis South Bruce with a chance to Clinch first in our division. This was a tough test in more ways than one as South Bruce was penalized for two 4 min penalties for head contact and amassed 16 mins total in penalties. With the parents stressing, Adam scored 4 mins into the third period followed by  Brody scoring with five mins left in the game. From there Etienne made sure the lead stood up for a 2-0 win While the score was close the ice was definitely tilted towards the South Bruce end with their goalie making some amazing saves.
Next game was a semifinal vs Delhi Rockets with the team losing being eliminated. (Delhi defeated the Peewee Maddogs in the OMHA Finals last year) Delhi struck first five minutes into the game, Brody answered back 2 mins later and the score was 1-1 after one. Delhi Fired a rocket into the top corner a min into the 2nd to take a 2-1 lead which lasted until Adam scored the Equalizer with 2 mins left in the second. Brody scored with 51 seconds left and  we had the lead for the first time 3-2  at the end of the second period. A Quick goal by Nate in the third put us up 4-2 and then another goal by Nate put us up by a score of 6-2. Delhi scored to make it closer but Cole and Clay scored to make it a 8-3 Final.

This put us in the Final Sunday against South Bruce. Big game Nate started us off with slick finish after a sick pass from Brody to make it 1-0 five mins into the first. It stayed that way until Reed followed up his rebound carried it behind the net, looked to pass it to Taryn in the slot but he was well covered so Reed turned and roofed it to make it 2-0. With the clock running down  Brody found himself alone in the slot with 2.2 seconds left he quickly let of a hard low shot that the South Bruce Goalie made a stop on but Quinn quickly pounced and buried the rebound just as time expired. 3-0 After 2 while parents where still tense we could breathe now. South Bruce didn't quit and got a power play goal with 6:58 left and lots of time left to mount a comeback. But the boys where equal to the task with great defence and backchecking  they held them off until Brody fittingly scored a empty net goal. A goal  Reed termed the winning goal as he didn't feel they had it won until that moment.

Moments of Wow for me.  Skating our team where moving their feet all weekend as a result every game the opposing team had more penalties than we did. Amazing support for our Goalies when we got scored on our team stepped up and worked harder with our forwards coming back hard and forechecking hard.  Great Passes that led to great scoring chances and goals. No Quit we hit countless posts and it didn't seem that the puck would ever go in but every shift every player was dangerous. Both Goalies had Shutouts and both played outstanding. Everyone had points and more importantly contributed. Special Mention Brody had 11 Goals five assists. Evan Dangerous rushes hard shot. Owen Solid d hard shot, Ethan rushing the puck great passes, Reed smart plays, Hard slapper, Logan Fast doesn't give up, Clay always moving , digging , Taryn grinding, getting in the open, Cole fast, great forechecking, Quinn Hardwork, Buzzerbeater , Adam wheels and wicked shot, Brody sweet Dangles and snipes.
Thanks to our Coaches Ian, Denver, Jason, Kyle, Mike  for a successful tournament
