2015 Jeff Davie Memorial Novice Rep Tournament Novice

Parents, For anyone who did not know Jeff Davie, this is just a little note to let you know a little about him and the foundation his family has created.  The Novice rep tournament is a memorial tournament in honour of the former Minto Minor Hockey player and Harriston resident.

Jeff passed away on November 16, 2008 at the age of 24.  Brook Cochrane (current Minto Minor Hockey Pee Wee Rep head coach) along with his family and the Davie family started the annual Jeff Davie Memorial 3-pitch Tournament in 2009.  The 3-pitch tournament is held on the August long weekend with games played in both Harriston and Palmerston and hosts an average of 30+ teams over the 3 days.  So far this tournament has raised over $100,000 in just 7 years! The Davie family has used these funds to give back to the community in various ways including: Minor sports teams, scholarships, equipment and upgrades/maintenance to playing fields.  Minto Minor Hockey has seen a direct impact from this in the way of many donations and also funding for some of our amazing jerseys! The Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada and Make-A-Wish Foundation are also contributed to. Traditionally, in honour of former alumni who pass away, a hockey team will wear some kind of patch or band somewhere on their equipment or jersey.  In addition to the existing patch already worn on the shoulder of each player, this year’s novice team would like to show our own way of honouring Jeff for our tournament.  Typically, eye black is used by baseball players to cut down the glare from the sun.  Our players will sport custom “JYD” and “43” eye blacks in memory of Jeff and one of his sports jersey numbers – 43. LET’S GO MAD DOGS!!
