Atom LL 1 faced off against Atom LL 2 on Monday November 14 in Palmerston.
For those who were able to attend the game, they were treated to some spectacular hockey as both squads gave it their best effort.
LL 2 got off to a terrific start and dominated play in the first half of the first period with their aggressive puck play and forecheck. They were rewarded half way through the first frame when Connor Forester was able to find the back of the net after receiving a pass from Conner Rowley. LL 2 took a commanding 2 – 0 lead quickly in the second period with Bailey Drost’s goal assisted by Conner Rowley and Rylynne Sinclair at the 12.32 mark of the second.
LL 1 never gave up and after some good saves by Zach Harrow, seemed to find their legs and passing game mid way through the second frame. LL 1 was able to get on the scoreboard at the 2:23 mark of the second period after a scramble in front of the LL 2’s net pushed the puck back to Bradyn Brooking who’s wrist shot from just inside the blueline found it’s way through traffic to the back of the net. When the buzzer sounded to end the second period, LL 2 was up 2 -1 but momentum had started to change in LL 1’s favour.
LL 1 came out flying in the third period. Ian Jamieson tied the game 2 -2 after receiving a pass from Braedon Thornton and with a strong effort to beat the defensemen on the outside then cut hard to the net flipping the puck over his pad at the 13:25 mark of the third. Both teams played hard with good chances for each in the third period. With less than 2 minutes to go in the 3rd, Bradyn Brooking picked up the puck in his own end of the ice and was able to move the puck all the way down the ice and with a wrist shot from the corner face off circle, tucked the puck just inside the goal post to give LL 1 a 3 – 2 lead with 1.55 left in the 3rd frame. To keep the crowd in suspense, LL 1 was assessed a bobychecking penalty at the 1:28 mark of the 3rd period. LL 2 pushed hard with the man advantage and had some good scoring chances but LL 1 held off their drive and when the buzzer sounded to end the game, were victorious with a 3 – 2 win.
