Minto Atom Select Team FINALISTS at the Bradford Select Tournament
Minto’s Atom Select Team travelled to the Nottawasaga Resort Jan 14-16th to take part in the Bradford Atom Select Tournament. This tournament included select teams from around Ontario.

Game #1 was against the Georgina Blaze. Kaleb Irvin opened the scoring midway through the 1st period. Ryan Helmka would then post the Mad Dog’s next goal to put them ahead 2-0 early in the 2nd period. The Blaze then staged a comeback to tie the game at 2-2 near the end of the 3rd period. With 39 seconds remaining in the 3rd period Josh Gray saw an opening and made a rush from defense, scoring an unanswered goal to put the Mad Dogs ahead and win the game. The lone assist for the game went to Ethan Lemke. Great game in net Bailey and Owen!

Game #2 the Mad Dogs faced off against Ottawa – West End. Both teams battled hard back and forth to a scoreless tie at the end of the 2nd period. The 3rd period remained scoreless until the 1:55 mark when Ottawa notched the go ahead goal, then added the empty netter to win 2-0. It was a tough loss against a very strong team. Owen Day had an awesome game in net!

Game #3 would see the Mad Dogs play Mississauga – Erindale. This was a must win game for the Mad Dogs if they wanted to advance to the finals. The Mad Dogs came out strong opening the scoring in the first period with a goal by Noah Aitken. Mississauga tied the game just minutes later and that’s the way the 1st period ended. The Mad Dogs started the scoring midway in the 2nd period and never looked back. Goals were scored by Tyler Canning, Kaleb Irvin (2) and Greg Young. Assists went to Noah Aitken, Ryan Litt, Kaleb Irvin, Ryan Helmka and Boston Will. Bailey Sinclair had a strong game in net.

The Championship game saw the Mad Dogs face off in a rematch against Ottawa-West End. Both teams battled hard throughout the entire game, but Ottawa came out on top with a 5-0 win. It was a tough defeat, but the coaching staff and parents were very proud of how well the Mad Dogs played on the weekend.

The Atom Select team was formed from players on both Atom LL teams. The team came together for only a few practices before the tournament and played very well as a team and had a lot of fun. The Mad Dogs did very well considering the teams they played against come from large centers and play together all year. The team consisted of the following players: Ryan Litt, Kaleb Irvin, Greg Young, Ryan Helmka, Noah Aitken, Tyler Canning, Ethan Lemke, Connor Rowley, Boston Will, Josh Gray, William Dennison, Andrew Mallett, Owen Day and Bailey Sinclair.

Congratulations Mad Dogs on being finalists in the Bradford tournament!!
