Minto Atom Reps 2-0 in OMHA semi-finals!
Minto hosted the Centre Hastings Grizzlies on Feb. 26 2011 for game 1.  The result was a hard fought 3-2 OT win.

The Grizzlies were unbeaten in league play this season and were finalists in the International Silver Stick this year.  Minto fans knew that these teams would match up well as Minto only had one loss to a "C" division team this season.  Both teams tested each other’s goalies in the first period, but it ended scoreless.
In the second period, the Grizzlies took advantage of a Minto line change and scored at the 13 minute mark.  Minto's Brett Zabel would answer back at the 6 minute mark on assists from Tyson Koopman and Brodie Hoffele to tie it up.  Only seconds later the Grizzlies would score to make it 2-1 and hold that score to end the period.
In the third period, Minto worked to keep the puck out of their end and keep the shot count down on goalie Trevor Scott while continuing the get shots on Center Hastings goalie.  Trevor Scott made some great saves and kept the Grizzlies scoreless in the 3rd.  With just over two minutes remaining, Brett Zabel scored on a great effort with assists going to Leah Herrfort and Logan Wanless to tie the game at two.  With signs of wear, both teams fought hard for the game winner in overtime.  With 5 minutes left on the clock, Brett Zabel would record his 3rd on the night and put away a loose puck unassisted to end the game!
Great job team!

Game 2
Minto and Centre Hastings would meet again in Harriston on Sunday Feb 27th.  Minto won this game 3-1.
Today’s game was just as intense as first.  Minto began the game strong and was determined to get the first goal and with 3 minutes left in the first period, Reid Lobsinger picked up a rebound from Parker Miller and Lucas Oxford.  Just minutes later, Brodie Hoffele added another goal from Tyson Koopman to make it 2-0 and end the period.
Period 2 began with Centre Hastings working hard to get on the board but goalie Trevor Scott held Minto in the game with some amazing saves.  Minto's forchecking paid off at the 9 minute mark when Brett Zabel picked up a rebound from Ryan Litt and Cody Camm for a 3 goal lead.
In the 3rd period, the Grizzlies seemed to find energy and had Minto pinned in their own end.  They managed to get a goal at the 9 minute mark for a score of 3-1.  The Grizzlies continued to work hard and managed to get some great shots on net but the Mad Dogs would hold the lead and end the game for a 3-1 final.
Minto’s hard work and ‘team first’ attitude paid off for the Mad Dogs in these two big wins over a very good Centre Hastings team.  Minto will travel to Centre Hastings (Madoc) next Friday for a 7:30pm game and will need to work just as hard or even harder against this very good opponent.

Thanks to all the fans for showing support for your Minto team.  The kids loved playing in front of such a great crowd.
