Message from the President
Hello Minto Mad Dog Families!
I wanted to write to you on behalf of our MMHA executive to provide some updates on what is taking place within our association during these rapidly changing times.
First, I hope that everyone is staying safe and heeding all the precautions that will help to flatten the curve of COVID-19. We are undoubtedly facing unprecedented times and our main focus is on the health and safety of ALL of our Minto Minor Hockey members and their families.
Like you, we are very disappointed with the abrupt end to the 2019-20 hockey season and the fact that all of our teams didn’t get to finish their hockey seasons due to COVID-19.
However, it was important to be proactive in officially cancelling the remainder of the season and we support Hockey Canada, the OHF and the OMHA in their difficult decisions. The health and safety of all our participants in Minto Minor Hockey is of utmost importance.
Even though the hockey season ended prematurely, there were still a lot of positives that came out of this past season.
We realize that a majority of our MMH teams were involved in league (WOAA) and OMHA playdowns when the season was cancelled. MMH was having a winning and successful season with a record of 179-138-25.
We also had 2 teams preparing to enter OMHA Finals – Juveniles (vs Centre Hastings) & Bantam Rep (vs East Lambton). For the first time in OMHA history, OMHA has named Co-Champions for each un-played OMHA series.
Therefore, I’d like to congratulate the Minto Mad Dog Juvenile & Bantam Rep teams on their OMHA Co-Championships. It was an exciting season for both teams, which treated fans to some great hockey – your coveted Red Hats should be delivered to us soon.
Hopefully, you will be able to have in-person or remote/virtual gatherings with your teams in the near future to help bring the season to a proper close.
Key Messages: MMHA continues to monitor the COVID-19 situation in consultation with our governing bodies and local/national health officials and will announce details on season commencement and structure as and when such information becomes available.
In the meantime we will continue to prepare and plan for the 2020-21 season. At this point, we are taking things one day at a time, but we do plan on being prepared when the OMHA/WOAA gives us the green light.
Player Registration - we realize many of you have been wondering about registration for the 2020-21 hockey season. We are hopeful and optimistic that we will have a hockey season next year. We have no idea what this could look like or when it will commence, however, we must take our lead from OMHA / Hockey Canada. Our online registration is not available at this time, please stay tuned! Given that registration is currently unavailable to members, our MMHA June 1st Late Fee will not apply.
Registration Fees – Due to the uncertainty regarding the 2020-21 season, we are unable to set our fee structure and payment options at this time. Once we receive direction from OMHA / Hockey Canada, we will notify the MMHA membership and post registration information on the MMH website, again please stay tuned!
Coaching Applications – MMH is currently accepting coaching applications for the upcoming 2020-21 season. Applications will be accepted for all teams at this time. Current, first time and returning coaches are required to fill out an application(s) for any and all vacancies you are interested in. Coaching applications can be found on the MMH website and forwarded to George Terryberry – Director of Player and Skill Development. The deadline for coaching application submissions is August 1st, 2020.
MMHA AGM – Given the cancellation of our April 2020 AGM, we will reschedule our AGM within 90 days of when the Province of Ontario rescinds the order restricting gatherings of more than 5 people. We will let you know when we know.
At this time, I want to take the opportunity to thank my executive, our valued volunteers, bench staff, and on and off-ice officials for their tremendous efforts in putting forth a quality hockey experience for the youth in our community. It is due to the work of all of these individuals that have made our programs successful! Stay safe and healthy!
