Atom Reps Win Goderich Tournament
The Minto Mad Dog Atom Reps traveled to Goderich over the weekend to participate in the Sailors tournament. Their first game took place Friday night at 8:00 against the Mitchell Meteors. Most of the game was a hard fought, back and forth affair, but late in the third the Mad Dogs got up a couple goals and added an empty net too finish with a 7-3 win.

Saturday morning saw the Mad Dogs back in Goderich for a 10:00 start against the Blyth-Brussels Crusaders. Again this was another tough fought game and goalies at both ends were being stingy. Minto was up 3-2 late in the third but was having some trouble with penalties, playing 6-4 for the last 2 minutes the Mad Dogs were once again able to add an empty net goal to secure the 4-2 win.

With a short rest the Mad Dogs were back on the ice at 1:00 against the host Goderich Sailors. After a lot of action at both ends and both teams taking several penalties, the Mad Dogs started to find the back of the net. This rough affair saw Minto come out with an 8-1 victory.

Game 4 came after a longer rest at 6:00 against Georgian Shores. This was Minto’s 3rd game of the day. Right from the start you could tell Minto’s legs were starting to fail them and Georgian Shores put the pressure on. It took until half way through the 2nd period before Minto could put a goal on the score board, but once that happened the boys were able to keep filling the net. Mad Dogs goalie Triston Friedrich came up with some big saves late in the 3rd to earn the shutout and Minto would come away with an 8-0 win.

Onto the finials Sunday at 4:00. This game would once again see Minto taking on the Mitchell Meteors. From the drop of the puck Mitchell was determined to revenge their loss to Minto Friday night. Minto got on the scoreboard first but Mitchell answered right back. Soon after the Mad Dogs would add another goal. The pressure from Mitchell never stopped and the legs were giving out. With 20 seconds left in the game Minto added an empty net goal to win the tournament with a 3-1 victory.

Congratulations Mad Dogs everyone one was very proud of you.
